Helping children learn how to read

KOBI
The challenge
"A cross-team collaboration to develop a completely redesigned Flutter mobile app "

KOBI is an app designed to help children with dyslexia learn to read. It takes a personalised approach, tailoring the learning experience to each child’s unique pace and providing support based on their individual needs. Through a playful and engaging method, KOBI sparks a desire to read more, enabling children to achieve greater success in developing their reading skills.

When we first partnered with the KOBI team, they already had a well-defined vision for their product. We supported them with our expertise in Flutter development, QA, and project management, working together to bring their vision to life.

Kobi is an award-winning app that received the OpenAI Learning Impact Prize.

COOPERATION

Structured meeting framework

From a project management point of view, we started from scratch, implementing the Scrum process and introducing QA practices to the client. Along the way, we learned the importance of trust, communication, prioritisation, and managing tight deadlines. We also helped KOBI establish a framework for agile project management, which they still use today, even as their internal team continues to grow and develop the app. To ensure successful cooperation between the two teams and achieve both immediate and long-term project success, we implemented a structured meeting framework.

Daily stand-ups

They allowed team members to align on priorities, address any blockers quickly, and ensure the project remained on track, even under tight deadlines. They created a sense of accountability for the whole team.

Bi-weekly sprint refinements

In these meetings, the product owner presented features for the next sprint and the team identified potential issues and possible improvements. This was especially important as the team was based in two different locations, making effective communication essential.

Roadmap reviews

Roadmap reviews provided a clear overview of the progress and ensured alignment between all stakeholders on priorities and timelines. These meetings helped identify potential risks or adjustments early, enabling the team to stay focused and proactive in achieving project goals.

Retrospectives

Retrospectives allowed the team to reflect on what went well and identify potential alterations after each sprint.  They helped build trust and drove the team to strive for constant improvement.
