The legend of Kaldi or whence our name
Jumping goats myth
Long ago, an Ethiopian goatherd noticed that when his goats nibbled on the bright red berries of a particular bush, they became more energetic. One day, he decided to chew on some of the berries himself. His exhilaration prompted him to bring the berries to a monk in a nearby monastery.
The monk disapproved of their use and threw them into a fire, from which an enticing aroma billowed. The goatherder quickly raked the roasted beans from the embers, ground them up, and dissolved them in hot water, thus becoming the world's first cup of coffee. His name was Kaldi.
Even today, thousands of years after his discovery, coffee fuels and energizes us to solve technically challenging problems that are sometimes even better than the sweet smell of our morning coffee.
